Christian Schneider (ESA/HS) - High-energy emission matters for matter around stars

I will talk about high-energy effects in the stellar context. First, I will show how X-ray/FUV observations of accreting, young stars allow us to probe circumstellar material; a critical part of the planet formation process.
Second, I will present our HST/XMM-Newton/Chandra program to measure the high-energy environment of planets orbiting low-mass stars called MUSCLES, which is important to correctly interpret atmospheric signals including potential life tracers.
