Seit 1980 Professor (C4) für Astronomie an der Universität Hamburg. Meine Lehr- und Forschungstätigkeit davor kann meiner Vita entnommen werden. Seit 1.4.2009 pensioniert.

Nach ersten Arbeiten über Sternatmosphären und Sonnenphysik hatte die eigene Forschung in der Vergangenheit drei Schwerpunkte:

  1. Winde und Massenverluste von roten Riesen
  2. Weiße Zwerge und Endstadien der Sternentwicklung
  3. Quasarsurveys und beobachtende Kosmologie
