Social Program
The following events have been scheduled:
- Sun, July 4, 2004, 6pm
- Registration and welcoming reception at the CCH.
- Mon, July 5, 2004, 7pm
- Reception of the Senate of the Freie and Hansestadt Hamburg in the
town hall of Hamburg.
- Wed, July 7, 2004, ca. 2:30pm
-
Guided tour of the "Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron" (DESY) (10€ incl. T-shirt !).
The DESY is one of the world's
leading centers for studying the structure of matter.
The research with DESY accelerators ranges from particle physics to molecular biology and medicine
in the Hamburg Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (HASYLAB). The fee of
10€ includes the bus trip, a coffee break, and a conference T-shirt.
- Thu, July 8, 2004, ca. 7:30pm-11pm
- Combined conference dinner and harbor sight-seeing boat trip (48€, guest tickets possible, 15€ cancellation fee).
The dinner will be a buffet on board of a ship while cruising the
largest port of Germany.
During dinner you will be able to enjoy
the nice harbor front of Hamburg
(more impressions available here).
After dinner the boat will commence the actual sight seeing tour through the port.
The total trip time will be between 3 and 4 hours. Remember, the 12 degree twilight ends
around 11pm in Hamburg on that day and there is no astronomical sunset, so that
there remains enough light to enjoy the tour.
The boat itself can be found
on the home page of the boat company.
For the attendants from the US it might be interesting to know
that Hamburg was the port of origin for many transatlantic passages of immigrants into the US.
- Fri, July 9, 2004, late afternoon (ca. 4pm-evening)
- Barbecue at the Hamburger Sternwarte (5€).
You will have the chance to attend a guided tour of the observatory and its instruments.
Your tickets for public transportation will be valid for the trip to the observatory.
We will supply detailed information on how to reach the observatory
at the conference.
The fees for most of the events are handled by Interplan, the company that handles our
general registration. You may take advantage of
buying tickets while completing your registration.
