The 0Z project is a large observational program to more than double the
number of extremely metal poor stars with high dispersion abundance analyses,
with the aim of shedding light on the early epoch of the formation of the
Galaxy, the chemical evolution of the Galaxy, and related issues. This is
being accomplished by observing candidate stars from the Hamburg/ESO
Survey (HES) (which has a two times higher effective yield of extremely
metal poor stars than the existing HK survey) with
Keck I/HIRES,
and, starting in 2002, also with Magellan 1.
